Glaze application and Surface design application

Workshop Description:

Come on a messy journey into the world of glazing to explore:

• Dipping, pouring and spraying

• Sponging, brush work and slip trailing

• Using resists and oxide washes

• Glaze on glaze and techniques for highly textured surfaces

• glazing for purpose, common glaze faults and food safety

• the benefits of glaze tests and recording results

And surface decoration on greenware:

• Bubble technique and applying underglaze

• Using slips and slip trailing

• water etching 

• applying transfers

The Club will provide:

• underglaze colours

• plastic jugs

• iron oxide

• body stains

• latex gloves

• sponges

• SCArt glazes to demonstrate application

• cold wax

• brushes

• slip trailers or small plastic bottles with thin nozzles

Participants will need to bring:

• 6-8 bisqued pots

• 3-4 raw pots (including one small plate)

• 1-2 leather hard pots

Pots need to be simple forms to work on and large mug sized.
