BEGINNER HANDBUILDING WITH GOHAR ABRAAMYAN Participants will be introduced to a range of Handbuilding Techniques. A new technique will be covered each week. Each technique will be demonstrated and students will have the opportunity to learn the technique, in class, with guidance from the instructor. Week 1. Pinch + Texture Week 2. PLASTER MOULD MAKING AND SLIP CASTING This 10-Week course is designed for intermediate to experienced clayworkers. Participants will explore drape and hump moulds and the use of coloured slips, clays and textures. Then the course moves to creating one and two piece moulds exploring various types and use of cottles, accurate plaster-mixing ratios, mould release agents, keying surfaces for correct alignment, undercuts in found forms, and using a variety of media to create the master form. This part of the course is intensive and physical, mixing larger plaster amounts, requiring significant attention to fine detail. WHEEL THROWING INTRODUCTION Try before you buy! For students who are keen to try wheel throwing, but don’t want to commit to a full course in case they are not sure it will be for them. In this 4 hour workshop students will be taken through the processes of preparing clay for wheel throwing, centring clay on the wheel, and the basic fundamentals of throwing a small simple bowl. This experience will provide students with a strong fundamental start to wheel throwing should they wish to pursue this technique further. All course materials and equipment will be supplied.
