Three week course with Lizzy Connor

Free yourself and let go of those brushes!  Working with palette knife to create  urbanscapes.  The journey of creating loose, fast and free images with different palette knives is a great way of freeing yourself up, as working with a palette knife will take you on its own journey,  and discovering different methods of applying paint with the pallet knife,  that can be taken away and used in your own art practice.

Urbanscapes  and the built environment involve a lot of angles and linear perspective and it is easy to create images that follow that format which can become very stiff and tight.  Use of palette knife will not only soften the architectural forms, but will make students “let go” .  These images will be textural, perhaps a little distorted.   They will be effective, fun and contain lots of movement and character.

    Members:  $90

    Non=members: $120

Todd's highly regarded workshops combine essential painting techniques with an emphasis on producing unique artworks inspired by real- life subjects. This is your opportunity to break free from your comfort zone and take bold creative leaps while boosting your confidence as an artist. With his guidance, you will participate in tailored activities to help you tackle challenges and improve your technical, observational, and problem-solving abilities.

You'll discover how to express yourself through painting while deepening your knowledge of colour, composition, and form. Artists will delve into numerous techniques for capturing landscapes, seascapes, and still life using either acrylic or oil paints. Expect to experiment fearlessly with colour, cultivate dynamic brushwork, palette knife techniques and embrace a spontaneous approach to your painting. By the end of the workshop, you will have created a collection of artworks with the expert guidance of Todd Whisson, who will help you refine your distinct artistic style.

PASTELS AND PETS with Lizzy Connor (4 weeks)

Painting pets with pastels can be a delightful and rewarding artistic endeavor. This course will explore creating images of some of our best friends with the lovely medium of soft pastel.

This workshop will investigate the properties and limitations of pastel including mark making, blending with fingers and brushes on small pieces of canson and colourfix.  We will be considering colour schemes, as there is little opportunity to mix colour, and what impact does the colour of the paper have on the colours of the pastel, the lightness or darkness of the paper will determine whether your working on shadows first or leaving your lights out.

Participants are encouraged to bring an image of their best fur friend, or feathered friend.

The Sunshine Coast Art Studio Group is holding a Paint & Picnic workshop for fun - similar to the popular paint & sip events.

    WORKSHOP OUTLINE

The event will be a one-day session:

    • Morning Session (9.30 to start at 10 am to 12.30 pm)  This would introduce the basics, using the 3 primary colours (red, blue, & yellow) along with black and white.  Participants will learn how to paint while mixing colours, brush techniques, and even alternative tools that offer unique textures and effects.
    • Lunch Break (12.30 pm to 1.30 pm)  Participants would bring their picnic lunches to enjoy on our grounds.  We would provide tea, coffee, and juice.
    • Afternoon Session (1.30 pm to 4.00 pm)  Participants would continue their projects, applying to create unique pieces.

    FEES & MATERIALS

The fee is $35 per session for members and $40 for non-members.  This covers:

    • A canvas for each participant
    • Access to our paints, brushes, and other materials

Canvases would be prepped with either grey paint or Gesso, along with an outline of the topic.  We will use prepared images, allowing each participant to select a unique subject rather than having everyone paint the same image.
